Hello my lovelies! I just got back from a short break visiting my parents. There was sleeping in. A birthday. A bonfire. And lots of green. We are ready for Wrestlemania this afternoon.
It was so lovely to get away for a few days you guys. When you work in the house and live in the house it all gets a bit samey. I went to see my parents for a mini-break. As I have talked about before their place is a little green paradise in the Waikato. It was great to spend a few days with no alarm clock. Reading and having a nap in the afternoon. Popping to Raglan for a bit to shop.
I’m trying to remember that I still need to find time to take a break even though I work at home. I came back energised with some new ideas to work on.
It was my Mum’s birthday while I was there. I made the cake. Natch. It was a delicious variation on the Honey & Co Pear and Olive Oil Cake that I love, made with apples.
We also had a bonfire. Man can my Dad make a fire. Look at that construction. It’s a good time of year for it with the evenings still pleasant. We had marshmallows. It’s not a bonfire without them.
As per usual I made sure I foraged heartily before leaving. Blueberries are a standard item. But jam, a few quinces and some tea leaves made their way into my luggage this time. My Mum was given a tea bush as a gift so I had to give it a go. I tried to dry the tea leaves but I killed them. They oxidise very quickly. Sadface.
It was not a one sided exchange. I took strawberry jam, smoky plum sauce a loaf of experimental multi-grain sourdough and sourdough starter. It was the first time I have split and gifted my starter. I had weird parental feelings. It’s awesome to know that my baby lives on with someone else.
It’s Wrestlemania today. After cramming work into the morning it will be snacks and burgers all round. Everyone loves a good bit of man drama. Well other peoples scripted man drama. The weather is going to turn nasty so it’s a good day for curling up on the couch!
Remember to take breaks. Keep drama to a minimum. Look after each other.

Oh wow! That lake looks stunning, and those tea leaves are beautiful. I think I’m made to be out in nature, but here I am, in a city without a car. 😄 … I like where I live really! It’s full of lots of my favourite people, and I do enjoy being in the vicinity of coffee shops!

Because I grew up in the countryside I need to have some green around – technically I live in a city but the botanic gardens are across the road from our house and there are so many trees stuffed between all the houses it doesn’t feel like it!
it’s how the young people used to say “naturally” some years ago… pretty sure it’s not cool anymore haha
Haha! I love natch.😄 I’ve never lived in the proper countryside, but my grandparents did. I used to love visiting their house, surrounded by fields and rolling hills. There were only about six or seven other houses in their little hamlet, but you could only see two of them from the house. … We did used to live in a village during my teens, but it was a BIG village and just outside a town so I’m not sure it counts. I miss being able to see sheep from my window though.
ahh sheep – we used to have pet lambs haha
