The WB Life: Bitchin’

Hello my lovelies! It’s official. I am now a proper Bitch. Working part time at Good Bitches as of this coming week. I was nominated for a Blogger Recognition Award. I caught up with some lovely ladies I’ve known for ever. A tip from a friend changed my life. And I’m making the attempt to be a more conscious consumer.

As I mentioned the last couple of weeks, I had applied for a job with the amazing ladies at Good Bitches. Just this week everything was finalised and I start this week! This is very exciting. Having some money coming in. Having manageable hours. Working for a cause I believe in. Being able to help GBB to do more in the community. SO good.

I have been nominated for my first Blogger Recognition Award. It’s a lovely system which gives bloggers a chance to get to know each other and highlight the work of those we are interested in. A separate post will go up this week for it. It’s one of those exciting little moments. It came during a week of good little moments. Everything is coming up Milhouse.

A friend I don’t get to see often was visiting from Melbourne. We had a delicious dinner and catch up with a group of my best gals. It was great to see her and say hello to their little one. I feel lucky that I am still close with these beautiful ladies from high school. My best friend and I have known each other for nearly TWENTY years now. That’s a bit ageing. But mostly awesome.

Now during this catch up, I was told that you can adjust the height of the attachment on a KitchenAid mixer yourself. This is life changing. I was seriously struggling with the poor job my KitchenAid was doing of everything. I couldn’t understand why an entire nation was so in love with something that was frustrating and all around inferior to the mixer I’d had previously – a Breville. I have had a go at adjusting it and will see how she goes for the next few projects. I am hopeful.

I have been thinking about consumption lately. It has been a difficult adjustment going from a good income with a good amount of discretionary cash to living on a much tighter budget. A lot of it is habit. I’d gotten used to having extra money. Adapting to spending less has made me think more about what and how I buy. I’m testing myself with a period of not buying any ‘things’. Replacing clothes and shoes is okay but I don’t really need a third bundt pan or more dishes and bowls. While we have a very small environmental footprint as a household, I’d like to spend more consciously as well. Reducing plastics. Buying second hand. I have been a terrible shopper for second hand clothes in the past. I am easily frustrated by clothes shopping in general. Now that I have more time perhaps I can train myself to be more patient.

Catch up with a friend. Buy less. Look after each other.

xx

  1. Welcome on board with GBB HQ! We’re pretty choice, I must say. 🙂

As for conscious consumption – I hear ya. I’m “allowing” myself to buy new shoes and underwear; everything else is 2nd hand, or, if I am going to buy something new, I’m aiming for NZ-made. I’m not much of a shopper anyway, but this has been a great way to buy less “stuff.” I also have a box open in the living room to fill with stuff to give away – we have a tiny house and pretty much any time we get something new, we have to get rid of something old. Same with clothes hangers – I won’t buy any more, so if we run out of hangers, we’d best get rid of some clothes!

Food waste minimisation is my current obsession and very easy to “gamify.” I just have to make sure I don’t go overboard and a) scare my family with really freaky reincarnations of food or b) use MORE stuff to use up the OLD stuff and thus perpetuate the leftover food conundrum.

And yay for blogger award nomination. 🙂

    Cheers, Mary
